Shanghai: Strengthen the stockpile of drugs and other resources to cope with the possible second wave of future epidemic peaks
This afternoon, after the closing of the first session of the Shanghai Municipal People’s Congress, the Shanghai Municipal Government held a press conference, Mayor Gong is answering questions from the media.
Gong is answering how to do a good job of prevention and control of the epidemic in Shanghai, said, during this period, Shanghai adhere to the people first, life first, to protect health, prevention of serious illnesses on a more prominent position, focusing on three aspects of work.
The first is to do a good job of medical treatment. Recently, the city has experienced a wave of infection peak. Shanghai strengthened the gateway to prevent serious illnesses, improved the dispensing of drugs, oxygen therapy, infusion, hospitalization and other treatment services in community health service centers, and enhanced the capacity of grassroots medical treatment services; strengthened the expansion of critical care resources in hospitals at both urban and municipal levels, coordinated the resources of various hospital departments, and quickly upgraded ICU beds to more than 7,500, equipped with nearly 10,000 critical care medical personnel.
Secondly, we are doing our best to protect the public’s demand for medicines. Some time ago, some of the hot drugs were in short supply. Shanghai took multiple measures to support enterprises to produce at full capacity, broaden procurement channels, urgently organize imported drugs, insist on patient priority, precise placement, prioritize the protection of hospitals, nursing homes and other key institutions with drug needs, and strive to alleviate the difficulties of the public to dispense and buy drugs. Next, there may be a second wave of the epidemic peak, although it is expected to be less serious than the first wave of the epidemic, but still according to the changes in the epidemic situation and drug supply, targeted to strengthen resource reserves and enhance the protection capacity.
Third, strengthen the protection of key populations. The “old and young” are the top priority for health protection and prevention of serious illness. Shanghai insists on prevention and treatment, by strengthening health monitoring of the elderly, maternity, infants and other vulnerable groups, strict closed management of nursing homes and care homes, strengthening vaccination of the elderly and other measures to reduce the risk of infection as far as possible; establish a mechanism to connect key populations with medical institutions, smooth green channels, and do their best to improve the effectiveness of treatment.
Gong Zheng said that during this period, millions of medical workers are fighting at the forefront of epidemic prevention and treatment, doing their best for the health and lives of patients. “On behalf of the municipal government, I would like to take this opportunity to express our deep respect to every medical worker and our sincere gratitude to every dedicated person who is guarding people’s physical health and life safety.”
