After “Yang Kang”, many people worry about the emergence of different strains of secondary infection.

In this regard, Pan Yang, a researcher at the Institute of Infectious Disease and Endemic Disease Control of Beijing Center for Disease Control and Prevention, introduced that given that the two branches currently prevalent in the city are both subbranches of BA.5, with close evolutionary distance and high similarity in amino acid sequences, the neutralizing antibodies produced by infected persons of the two branches have a certain cross-protective effect, so the risk of reinfection in the city is expected to be low in the near future.

However, with the accumulation of factors such as virus mutation, immune protection decay and susceptible population, the risk of reinfection is expected to exist in the city in the following six months to a year.
