EU: “Strongly recommends” that countries require negative certificates for new crowns, testing of inbound flight wastewater for those entering from China

On January 4, the EU “strongly recommended” that EU governments require travelers from China to provide 48 hours of negative new coronas before departure at a meeting of the EU crisis management mechanism “Integrated Political Crisis Response” (IPCR) convened by the Swedish EU Presidency on January 4. The EU “strongly recommends” that EU governments require negative certificates of new coronas within 48 hours of departure from China, but the final policy will be up to each country.
The Swedish government said EU member states have agreed on “coordinated preventive measures,” including random testing of some arrivals from China and recommendations to wear masks on planes. The EU’s recommendations also include increased testing of wastewater on incoming flights and genomic surveillance at airports to monitor for potential new strains of the New Coronavirus.

The EU will reassess the situation and review its measures by mid-January, the EU statement said.
At a regular press conference of the Chinese Foreign Ministry on Jan. 3, Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning said that after China released the Interim Measures for the Movement of Chinese and Foreigners, many countries responded enthusiastically, which we appreciated, and will continue to optimize and adjust preventive and control measures in response to the epidemic situation to create better conditions for the safe, healthy and orderly movement of Chinese and foreign personnel and better safeguard foreign exchanges and cooperation.
Mao Ning said we are willing to strengthen communication with the international community and work together to overcome the epidemic, but also believe that some countries to take entry restrictions only for China, lack of scientific basis, some excessive practices are more unacceptable. We are firmly opposed to attempts to manipulate the epidemic prevention and control measures to achieve political ends, and will take corresponding measures for different situations and in accordance with the principle of reciprocity.
