At the meeting, in response to the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities’ request for people going to Taiwan from the mainland via Hong Kong and Macau to submit proof of nucleic acid, Ma Xiaoguang, spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, said that the new crown strain currently prevalent on the mainland has previously spread throughout the rest of the world, and that new strains can appear anywhere. Currently, the mainland’s epidemic prevention and control measures are optimized and adjusted, and the situation is under control. The DPP authorities’ sole focus on nucleic acid testing for mainland travelers to Taiwan is clearly unrelated to scientific epidemic prevention.
