On Dec. 27, Pan Yang, a researcher at the Beijing CDC’s Institute of Infectious Disease and Endemic Control, said in an interview that existing research shows that previous infections can provide the body with some immune protection against reinfection. After re-infection, clinical manifestations may generally be milder than previous infections due to the presence of immune protection from previous infections. However, this protection decreases over time, varies among individuals in the population, and is influenced by a variety of other factors, including viral variation. However, study data also show that patients with two or more new crown infections incur a higher cumulative health risk and disease burden due to the cumulative effect of multiple infections compared to patients who have had only one new crown infection. Therefore, even after recovery, it is recommended to continue to take appropriate protective measures such as wearing a mask to avoid the emergence of secondary or multiple infections.
