Recently, in response to public concern about the introduction of strains BQ.1 and XBB in Europe and the United States, Yuan Zheng’an, a member of the city’s leading group of experts on the prevention and control of the epidemic, said that the strains of Omicron BQ.1 and XBB found in Shanghai have only been detected in a very small number of incoming quarantine personnel and have not yet caused local transmission in the community.

Ling Yun, deputy director of the Shanghai Public Health Clinical Center, said that the Shanghai Public Health Clinical Center, as the designated hospital for inbound confirmed cases, has implemented strict closed-loop management of imported cases and released them from quarantine after meeting the discharge criteria, and no local transmission of imported strains from abroad has been found.
