She was diagnosed with infection in a routine nucleic acid test on December 15. In order to protect the privacy of our comrades and avoid the suspicion of holding a favor in return, we will not mention her name here.

Faced with the heavy workload of medical services, and under the extremely tight human resources, she insisted on not backing down, not giving in, treating her post as a battle station, treating her work as a career, and volunteering to work overtime.

On December 27, her symptoms worsened again. Blood tests indicated that the platelet count: 8×10^9/L [normal reference value of (100-300)×10^9/L].

On January 1, the diagnosis of secondary thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura was confirmed in Henan Provincial People’s Hospital. The precipitating factors may be immune deficiency due to viral infection or drug side effects.

The disease is a serious and rare vascular disease characterized by extensive thrombosis within the microvasculature. In clinical practice, plasma replacement can quickly and effectively remove the associated pathogenic factors from the patient’s plasma and reduce the concentration of inflammatory mediators in the patient’s plasma, resulting in rapid relief of symptoms.

This, in turn, requires large amounts of plasma. Currently, she requires 3,000 to 6,000 ml per day of treatment alone, with a treatment duration of at least 7 days.

In the meantime, we have to face another reality: blood banks are in short supply.

Three years into the epidemic, blood centers in all provinces are very tight on blood stocks. Especially recently, the amount of non-remunerated blood donations has dropped sharply, and the amount of blood in stock is at its lowest ever. Many patients are desperate for blood, but there is no blood available.

As the gatekeepers and guardians of people’s health, we cannot tolerate, are unwilling to, and cannot take up the already tight blood resources. He himself would never want to harm others for his own benefit.

The suffering is true. His family and friends were so impressed that they came to donate blood after learning the news. But it was still too much for them to do.

After learning of the situation, the Municipal Health Committee and the Party Committee of the hospital actively worked and coordinated with many parties to solve some practical difficulties. But the biggest problem remained unsolved: no blood was available. Recently, she was even dying many times due to the untimely and insufficient supply of blood.

As an old comrade in her 40s and a practical person with more than 20 years of experience, she has dedicated her spirit, ambition and responsibility to “responsible Xingying” with the pride and commitment of a woman.

With her thoughts about her work, her love for life, and her hope for the future, she is walking on the most difficult road to recovery. As colleagues, comrades, and family members of Xingying family, we cannot stand by and watch.
