A few countries take entry restrictions on travelers from China, China: will take reciprocal measures
On January 9, Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin hosted a regular press conference. A reporter asked, “You mentioned the XBB.1.5 strain in the U.S. Will China take countermeasures against the U.S. now that it has reopened its borders? Will there be virus testing for travelers from the U.S., or will there be a ban on entry?

Wang Wenbin said that after China released the general plan of “Category B” control of the new coronavirus infection and the provisional measures for the movement of Chinese and foreign personnel, many countries have welcomed it, but a few countries have announced entry restrictions on travelers from China. In this regard, China, with the utmost sincerity and in a pragmatic manner, has fully communicated with the countries concerned and introduced in detail the scientific and reasonable nature of China’s optimal adjustment of epidemic prevention measures and the current situation of the epidemic in China.
Wang Wenbin pointed out that it is regrettable that a few countries, in disregard of science and facts, still insist on taking discriminatory entry restrictions against China, to which China resolutely opposes and will take reciprocal measures. We once again call on all parties to take the facts into account, formulate preventive measures in a scientific and appropriate manner, and avoid politicizing epidemic prevention.
“China is willing to continue to maintain close communication with all parties, continuously optimize and adjust the epidemic prevention measures according to the time and situation, and jointly contribute to facilitating the movement of Chinese and foreign people and promoting solidarity against the epidemic and world economic recovery.” Wang Wenbin said.
