Biden declares U.S. outbreak over, though country’s new crown death toll still rising
Although the number of deaths from the new crown in the United States is still rising, with an average of more than 400 Americans dying from the virus each day, the country’s president, Joe Biden, has declared that the outbreak in the United States is over, the BBC reported Sept. 20.
That’s what Biden said in an interview with CBS’s “60 Minutes,” which aired last weekend. Biden said the new pandemic is over, although the U.S. is still doing “a lot of work” to contain the virus.
In August, U.S. officials extended the public health emergency for Newcastle pneumonia, which had been in place since January 2020, until Oct. 13.
To date, more than 1 million Americans have died from New Coronavirus. The seven-day average of deaths is now more than 400, with more than 3,000 deaths in the past week, according to Johns Hopkins University.
By comparison, in January 2021, more than 23,000 deaths from the virus were reported in just one week. About 65% of the total U.S. population is fully vaccinated.
Public health officials have expressed cautious optimism in recent weeks that the world is slowly moving toward an epidemic recovery, but continue to urge caution.
On Monday, Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, acknowledged that the situation has improved. But in comments to a Washington, D.C., think tank, he said the current daily death rate remains “unacceptably high.
“If we’re going to ‘live with the virus,’ we’re not at the level we need to be at.” Dr. Fauci said. He also warned that new variants of Neocrown Pneumonia could still emerge, especially in the coming winter months.
The United States recently approved a new vaccine that matches the Omicron variant strain currently prevalent in the country, and federal health officials are asking Americans to stay up to date on their vaccinations.
Last week, WHO Director General Ted Serry said the world is “at the best time in history to end the outbreak. He stated, “We are not there yet, but the end is in sight.”
Newcastle pneumonia also continues to have a significant impact on the U.S. economy. The National Bureau of Economic Research reported last week that illnesses associated with New Coronavirus have reduced the U.S. workforce by about 500,000 people.
According to Biden, the outbreak has had a “profound” impact on the American psyche. “It’s changed everything …… about people’s attitudes toward themselves, toward their families, toward their country, toward their communities.” He said, “It’s a very difficult time, a very difficult time.”
More than 6.5 million people have died worldwide since the outbreak began. The United States has the highest death toll, followed by India and Brazil.
