Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen stressed that Cambodia will not take entry prevention and restriction measures against China and welcome Chinese tourists to visit Cambodia.

Hun Sen said when attending the opening ceremony of the Mekong River Bridge in Kratie built with preferential loans from China on January 2, the Chinese government announced that it would orderly resume its citizens’ outbound tourism from January 8, and many countries have announced corresponding restrictions on flights and travelers from China. Hun Sen said, “That’s their business, but Cambodia will not take restrictive measures against Chinese travelers and welcome Chinese tourists to Cambodia.”

Hun Sen predicted that Cambodia is expected to receive 2 million Chinese tourists this year. Hun Sen said, “If Chinese tourists return, Cambodia’s economy will achieve high growth this year.”

At a regular press conference of the Chinese Foreign Ministry held on December 30, 2022, Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said that countries’ preventive measures should be scientific and moderate, and should not affect normal people-to-people exchanges and cooperation. Over the past few days, authoritative medical experts from several countries have said that there is no need to take entry restrictions on travelers from China.

Wang Wenbin pointed out that since the outbreak, China has been sharing relevant information and data with the international community, including WHO, in an open and transparent manner, sharing the gene sequence of the new coronavirus at the first time and making important contributions to the development of relevant vaccines and drugs for various countries. Recently, the Chinese authorities shared the viral genetic data of recent cases of new coronavirus infections in China through the Global Influenza Sharing Database. The Chinese authorities will continue to closely monitor the virus mutation, release information on the epidemic in a timely and transparent manner in accordance with the law, and work with the international community to address the challenges of the epidemic.
