The European Medicines Agency said on the 20th that the new crown epidemic has not yet ended in Europe, and European countries should continue to do a good job of vaccination to prepare for a new round of the epidemic.

Marco Cavalleri, head of vaccine strategy at the European Medicines Agency, said at an online press conference on the same day that in the past two years, there has been a round of new crown outbreaks with the onset of autumn, and a similar situation is likely to occur this year. Therefore, despite the decrease in confirmed cases and deaths of neo-crown in recent weeks, as autumn approaches, European countries should continue their vaccination efforts to prepare for the arrival of a new round of outbreaks.

Cavalleri said the Omicron strain new subtype BA.5 is the main variant currently circulating in Europe, but other variants such as new subtypes BA.4.6 and BA.2.75 also need to be closely monitored. he said new subtype BA.4.6, which is currently spreading rapidly in the United States, has already emerged in the European region.

Stephen Tillstrup, chief medical officer of the European Medicines Agency, stressed at a press conference on the same day that the new crown epidemic is not yet over in Europe and that European countries should do a good job of vaccination, especially the improved version of the vaccine, to prevent the further spread of the epidemic in Europe.

In addition, regarding the monkeypox epidemic, Cavalleri said that the EU region has reported about 20,000 confirmed cases of monkeypox and three deaths, and the number of confirmed cases of monkeypox in several EU member states has decreased in recent weeks, but it is not certain whether the trend has been declining.
