U.S. infectious disease expert Anthony Fauci warned that a new and more dangerous new variant of the new coronavirus is likely to emerge in the United States this winter, Consumer News and Business Channel (CNBC) reported Oct. 7.

Speaking at an event at the University of Southern California, Fauci said, “There is a good chance that another new variant will emerge in the United States that will escape human immunity.” Fauci urged Americans not to let their guard down because there is always a risk of increased cases during the winter months, “and I think it’s a little bit imprudent to suddenly say ‘we’re completely rid of (the pandemic).”

On the 7th local time, according to Johns Hopkins University (JHU), as of 17:22 EST that day, there were 96,657,277 cumulative confirmed cases of new coronary pneumonia and 10,624,212 cumulative deaths in the United States. The two data compared with 24 hours ago, 51,664 new confirmed cases and 410 new deaths.
