Henan: New coronavirus infection rate of nearly 90% has successfully passed the peak of the epidemic

On the morning of January 9, the provincial government press office held a press conference in Henan Province to coordinate the prevention and control of the new coronavirus infection. At the meeting, provincial health committee party secretary and director Kan Quan introduced, from the community surveillance data, as of January 6, 2023, the province’s new coronavirus infection rate is 89.0%, including 89.1% in urban and 88.9% in rural areas, the current stage of the epidemic strain is still dominated by Omicron BA.5.2 variant strain.
From the fever outpatient data, the number of visits reached a peak on December 19, 2022, and then showed a continuous downward trend. The comprehensive study concluded that the province has successfully passed the peak of the epidemic and achieved a smooth and orderly transition. The number of new infections per day is expected to remain at a low level by the end of this month.
