January 13, according to the HKSAR Government’s press release, the Hong Kong government announced today that the criteria for determining the nucleic acid test results of the new coronavirus will be adjusted from January 16. Test results issued from that date will be defined as negative if the Ct value of the test is 35 or above, except for clinical diagnostic purposes.

A government spokesman said, “For those who are diagnosed with a Ct value of 35 or above by January 16 and still have a valid quarantine order, the Centre for Health Protection will notify them via SMS before noon on January 16 that they do not need to remain in quarantine and will cancel their quarantine orders at the same time. The government will also arrange for the orderly departure of those in isolation facilities.”

In addition, the rapid antigen test does not have a Ct value and is less sensitive than the nucleic acid test, which has a higher viral load when it is positive. Therefore, all positive rapid antigen test cases reported through the “reporting system” must continue to be isolated in accordance with the original instructions of the isolation order.
