Infectious disease expert Fauci: U.S. not yet at level to coexist with new coronavirus

Anthony Fauci, a U.S. infectious disease expert, said locally on the 19th that the U.S. has not reached the level needed to “live with the virus” when it comes to the new crown pandemic, according to The Hill.

Fauci 19 told the U.S. International Center for Strategic Studies, the United States still have more than 400 people die every day from the new coronavirus, although the number has decreased than a year ago, but “if you want to” live with the virus “we have not reached the level needed. To date, humans have eradicated only one virus, the smallpox virus, according to Fauci. The new coronavirus is completely different from the smallpox virus, which does not change over the years, decades or even centuries, and the vaccine provides decades or even a lifetime of immunity.

Fauci said the direction of the U.S. epidemic depends largely on how to deal with future variants of the virus, but the U.S. community currently lacks uniform acceptance of epidemic prevention measures. Nearly three years into the New Crown outbreak, only 67 percent of the U.S. population has been vaccinated against New Crown, and only half of those have received booster shots.
