The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued a new statement on the 28th local time that passengers two years old and older flying to the United States from China, Hong Kong or Macau need to be tested for New Coronavirus no more than two days before the flight and present a “negative test certificate” to the airline before boarding. The test can be either a PCR test, known as a “nucleic acid test,” or a self-test for antigens via telemedicine services.

Meanwhile, the CDC website indicates that passengers who test positive more than 10 days prior to flight departure may provide documentation of recovery in lieu of a negative test result.

The above new rules will take effect at 12:01 a.m. EST on Jan. 5.
