The Yunnan CDC has monitored the variant of Omicron XBB.1 in cases imported by air from Southeast Asian countries as early as October 3, 2022, and XBB.1.5 has not been imported into our province yet. Up to now, XBB and BQ.1 new crown variant strains have not been detected in local cases monitored in the province.

Second, which strains are now prevalent in Yunnan and Kunming?

At present, through the provincial CDC and the state CDC to carry out timely monitoring of the new crown virus variant, Yunnan Province and Kunming City are still mainly prevalent in the Omicron BA.5.2 variant strain, the predominant strain in Yunnan Province is basically the same as other provinces in China, still dominated by BA.5.2.

As of January 5, 2023, the province has completed sequencing of 4273 samples in total, which promptly clarified the virus genotype and case transmission relationship, and provided important support for the epidemic research and diagnosis and flow investigation and tracing work.
