On the afternoon of January 6, Zhang Wenhong, director of the National Medical Center for Infectious Diseases and director of the Infection Department of Huashan Hospital affiliated with Fudan University, came to Caojiadu Street Community Health Service Center in Jing’an District to conduct field research and guide the medical treatment of new coronavirus infections in the community.

It is reported that since mid-December, the Municipal Health and Wellness Committee has deployed 132 municipal experts from 28 medical institutions to set up municipal expert teams, including 82 from the Department of Emergency and Critical Care Medicine, to form a linkage with the expert teams formed by the district health and wellness committees under their jurisdiction, so as to dovetail with the urban areas and assist in guiding the clinical treatment of critically ill patients in their own jurisdictions. In the form of regular meetings of experts, shift rotation and rounds, consultations, etc., we will make a comprehensive assessment of the conditions of critically ill patients in the region, open up two-way referral channels, and coordinate the critical care work in the region.

On the spot, Zhang Wenhong inspected the fever sentinel, infusion area, general consultation room, ward and other areas to understand the treatment process, admission status and supporting resources for fever patients.

The reporter learned that since December 2022, the daily average number of consultations at Caojiadu Street Community Health Center reached 1,000, and the daily average number of consultations at the fever clinic increased to 85.

According to Ye Tao, director of Caojiadu Street Community Health Service Center, the center’s fever sentinel is now open around the clock, and some infusions prescribed in secondary and tertiary hospitals are also able to be administered in community hospitals, which has substantially diverted the pressure of fever treatment in secondary and tertiary hospitals.

“Preventing serious illness is important in the golden 72 hours, and we focus on ‘early detection, early intervention and early treatment’ as the focus of treatment. As long as patients meet the indications and have the possibility of progressing to serious or critical illness, they are given small molecule drugs, Paxlovid, etc., in a timely manner so that they can receive antiviral treatment.” Ye Tao said.
