As the winter break draws to a close and the spring semester of 2023 is approaching, many places have already issued back-to-school epidemic prevention requirements for students.

Shenzhen ordinary primary and secondary schools and kindergartens will officially start school on February 6, and on the evening of February 1, the Shenzhen Education Bureau issued epidemic prevention precautions. Before returning to school, schools should organize home health monitoring for teachers, students and staff. Teachers, students and employees with symptoms such as fever, dry cough, weakness and sore throat should be tested for antigenic reagents. If the results are abnormal, they must report to the school truthfully and suspend their return to school; after the symptoms disappear with two consecutive (24-hour interval) negative antigen reagent tests, they can return to school.

On the same day, the Education Bureau of Huadu District, Guangzhou City also released the main points of prevention and control of school epidemics at the beginning of spring, requiring schools to establish four accounts of infections, basic diseases, outstanding psychological problems and vaccinations among teachers and students. High schools will report daily data on the prevention and return to school of senior high school students and teachers from January 30 onward; schools will report on the infection and vaccination of students and teachers with the new coronavirus from February 3 to 4; and schools will report daily data on the prevention and return to school of students and teachers from February 6 onward. Students and teachers with symptoms such as fever, dry cough, malaise and sore throat should undergo antigen or nucleic acid testing, and return to school will be delayed if the results are abnormal. For students who cannot return to school in time due to medical reasons, the quality and effectiveness of online education should be ensured.

Upon return to school, schools should strengthen the management of the white list of people entering the school, outsiders must verify their identity, take temperature and provide proof of negative nucleic acid or negative antigen, and those with symptoms of new crown infection should not enter the school. All staff and students in primary and secondary schools must wear medical surgical masks, except for sports activities, sleeping and eating. Kindergarten children may not wear masks.

On January 30, the Guizhou Provincial Department of Education also issued a reminder for the prevention and control of the epidemic for junior and senior students returning to school, asking students to monitor their health status, especially for suspected symptoms of new coronavirus infection such as fever, dry cough, fatigue and sore throat. If students return to school with related symptoms, they should seek medical attention and report to their schools, carry out antigen or nucleic acid testing as appropriate, and return to school after recovery if they are confirmed to be infected.

In addition, some elementary school in Hangzhou have also issued a notice to return to school. Some schools require students to do a daily health self-test a week before the start of school; some require an antigen or nucleic acid test a day before the start of school, such as fever, dry cough, weakness, sore throat and other symptoms, antigen or nucleic acid testing should be conducted in a timely manner, if the test result is positive, delayed return to school.

According to the school calendar, primary and secondary schools in Beijing start school normally on February 13. on January 6, Beijing held the 433rd press conference on the prevention and control of the new coronavirus infection. According to the press release, Beijing has adjusted and optimized its campus testing strategy. Schools and kindergartens will no longer conduct full nucleic acid screening, and teachers, students and employees will not be required to provide nucleic acid certificates to enter or leave the school gates and public areas of the campus. During non-epidemic times, nucleic acid certificates will no longer be required for off-campus personnel to enter the school. In the event of an epidemic or serious outbreak, the school may check the nucleic acid certificates of off-campus personnel.

On January 28, the three hundred and forty-first meeting of Beijing New Crown Epidemic Prevention and Control Leading Group and the two hundred and ninetieth meeting of the Capital Joint Prevention and Control Coordination Mechanism was held. The meeting emphasized that students from colleges and universities will return to Beijing one after another after the Spring Festival, and the work of returning to school should be carefully organized according to the principle of “batching and phasing, staggered timing and orderly”.
