Both the “Great White” and the parents of the students! A family of three gathered at the front line of the fight against the epidemic in Beijng
The recent outbreak at the Changping campus of Beijing University of Chemical Technology (BUC) has sent medical staff from various hospitals in Changping District to BUC to participate in the prevention and control of the epidemic, including doctors Li Shujie and Xu Caiteng from Changping District Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine. In addition to medical workers, they also have a special identity – the parents of students, “We volunteered to participate in nucleic acid sampling at our son’s school and fight the epidemic together with our children.”
“Students, it’s time to do the nucleic acid!” This is the first time Li Shujie walked into his son Li Xiang’s university, but he had no time to wander around, as soon as he got off the bus, he went straight to the students’ apartments and conducted nucleic acid testing in each dormitory. After hearing a few knocks on the door, Li Xiang hurriedly opened the dormitory door and was a little surprised by the familiar figure outside – “Dad, is that you?” Li Shujie pointed to the name on the protective clothing, took his son’s ID card to enter the information. On this special occasion, father and son did not communicate too much, and after quickly and skillfully completing the sampling, Li Shujie went to the next dormitory with his colleagues.
Parents are doctors in the hospital near the school, Li Xiang had thought that they might come to the school to participate in the prevention and control work, but did not expect to meet in the dormitory. “The first time I saw the heavily armed ‘Great White’ dad in person, I felt especially at ease the moment our eyes met.” Li Xiang said.
At the same time, Li Xiang’s mother Xu Caiteng is also busy working in the girls’ dormitory at Beijng Chemical. In addition to nucleic acid sampling, she will remind students to pay attention to dormitory hygiene and strengthen protection during quarantine. “Initially, I wanted to see how my children were doing in school, and in the past two days, I saw that they had sufficient supplies and were emotionally stable, so my hanging heart settled down.”
As frontline medical workers, Li Shujie and Xu Caiteng leave most of their energy to their patients and spend little time with their son. This time, they volunteered to participate in the prevention and control work at the North Chemical Industry, “as a kind of comfort for my son, but also a kind of compensation.” Li Shujie said that as a parent, it is a precious experience to overcome the hardships with the child and witness the growth of the child.
