Travelers from China will not face mandatory new coronavirus testing when they arrive in the United Kingdom next week, according to a Jan. 2 report in The Independent.

Testing for the new coronavirus at Heathrow will be voluntary, and those who test positive will neither be quarantined nor asked to self-quarantine, the report said.

The U.K. Department of Health and Social Security said Dec. 30 that from Jan. 5, Chinese travelers to the U.K. will need to show proof of a negative nucleic acid test within 48 hours before they can board a flight.
