Chinese embassies in the U.S., Japan and South Korea: Travelers to China must take a nucleic acid test 48 hours before their trip, and those with negative results can come to China

The Chinese embassies in the United States, Japan and South Korea all issued notices on January 15 regarding outbreak prevention and control requirements for travelers to China. It reads as follows.

According to the Chinese government’s December 27, 2022 interim measures for the movement of Chinese and foreign personnel following novel coronavirus infection category B B tube requirements, travelers to China are required to undergo nucleic acid testing 48 hours prior to travel, and those with negative results may come to China.

To ensure the health and safety of international travel, starting January 17, 2023 (local time), airlines flying to China will be responsible for checking passengers’ proof of a negative nucleic acid test within 48 hours prior to boarding, so please cooperate. China Customs will conduct random checks of the certificates upon passenger entry.

In order to facilitate the preparation of travelers to China, the Chinese Embassy has compiled the “Epidemic Prevention and Control Guidelines for Travelers to China” and the requirements for proof of nucleic acid testing (attached), please read them carefully and follow them carefully to avoid affecting your trip.

Epidemic Prevention and Control Guidelines for Travelers to China

I. Remote testing: Nucleic acid testing should be conducted within 48 hours before boarding, and only those with negative results can come to China; those with positive results should come to China after they have turned negative. Please take care of the negative test certificate and carry it with you for inspection.

Customs declaration: After obtaining a negative nucleic acid test result, fill out the “Health Declaration Card of the People’s Republic of China” through the WeChat app “Customs Passenger Service at Your Fingertips”, the Palm Customs App or the web version (https://htdecl.chinaport.gov.cn) to make a declaration.

Boarding inspection: The airline company will check the certificate of negative nucleic acid test within 48 hours when the passenger boards the plane.

In-flight epidemic prevention: Please insist on wearing a mask during the flight and do your personal protection to reduce the risk of epidemic infection.

V. Entry quarantine: Complete the necessary customs clearance procedures upon arrival at the port with the customs health declaration code. Customs will randomly check the proof of negative nucleic acid test 48 hours before boarding. Those with normal health declaration and no abnormalities in routine quarantine at the port can enter the social side. Health declaration abnormal or appear fever and other symptoms of the personnel, by the Customs test. Test results are positive, in accordance with the requirements of the notification letter for home, residence isolation or medical treatment. Negative results, by the Customs and Excise Department in accordance with the usual practice of “National Health and Quarantine Law” and other laws and regulations to implement routine quarantine.

Sixth, the local epidemic prevention: passengers should strictly comply with the requirements of the local epidemic prevention and control after entry.

Nucleic acid test certificate requirements

A. Contains the name of the person tested (should be the same as the name of the travel document used to take the flight to China), preferably with the date of birth and travel document number.

Second, contains the following test information: test time or report issuance time (at least one time within 48 hours before boarding), test method (should be nucleic acid testing, not accept antigen testing), test results (should be negative, not accept “uncertain” “gray area “results”), the name of the testing organization and contact information.

Third, in the official language of the departure place of the incoming flight or English, checked by the flight division of the incoming flight.

Fourth, for the paper report, if the testing agency issued an electronic report please print and bring.
