It has been more than a month since China optimized and adjusted its policies for the prevention and control of the new crown epidemic, shifting the focus from infection prevention to medical treatment.
Hospitals in many places have experienced a peak in fever outpatient visits and a peak in seriously ill patients.
According to data from the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the number of critically ill patients among hospitalized patients with new coronavirus nationwide peaked at 128,000 on January 5, 2023. It then continued to decline, dropping to 36,000 on January 23, a 72.0% decrease from the peak.
How are critically ill patients treated? How will hospitals cope during the peak infection period? Is there enough equipment and medical staff? This reporter visited the Critical Care Medicine Department of Beijing Friendship Hospital and learned that the percentage of newly crowned patients in the ICU is continuing to decline as the peak of infection passes.
The medical staff is still busy, and during the Spring Festival, they are still staying at their posts to take care of patients in the ICU, practicing the concept of “People First, Life First” with practical actions.
